Several years ago, I decided to revisit and share my love for botany and the
outdoors, and began building my web sites listed above. I typically spend
12 to 15 hours almost every Saturday in the field, fishing, hiking and photographing
plants and the Dunbar Creek
Valley. You are welcomed to join me on one of my
treks. (If you dare!) If you do join me, you will have to put up with a
guy that repeatedly drops to the ground and rolls around in the dirt, taking photos
of the things he finds.

I became involved with The AVS while working on my
Plants_and_Fungi
web site.
I discovered The AVS while looking for help in identification of the many
Viola species that are present in the Dunbar Valley. Somehow, I ended up
as the Webmaster for The AVS. It's sort of an
expertise exchange. I provide web
design services and our various experts provide me with identification assistance and
verification. In the
spring of 2001, I also hosted
The AVS' first field outing,
"Searching
for Violet Treasures"
In The Dunbar Hills.
In addition to constructing this site, I have contributed many of the native
violet images present on the site. I also contributed an article to the Gardening
Section that describes my yard / garden and an
Enviro-fountain that I constructed there
to allow me to host plants from various aquatic and stream environments in my yard.
This year, I plan to extend the fountain with a mountain bog. That should
prove challenging.
I am married to Cindy. She is a Juvenile Probation Officer for Westmoreland
County, Pennsylvania. We have two sons, Matthew is
22 and has two associate degrees
in Food Service Management and Culinary Arts. He is a registered chef. He is
now attending Penn State University, McKeesport Campus, pursuing a degree in Business
Management. My younger son, Stephen, is
19. He is also attending Penn State
McKeesport, studying Information Systems Technology. He is my most frequent fishing
partner.
