Image Of Viola rostrata
Copyright: Gary W. Sherwin © 2003 All Rights Reserved.

This photo of Viola rostrata was taken along Elk Rock Run in the Dunbar Valley of Southwestern Pennsylvania, during the Spring 2003 Amercan Violet Society Field Event "Violet Wanderers" On The Dunbar Mountain. Viola rostrata prefers broken soil with good drainage. It is frequently found along the tops of forest road cuts. The flower color is extremely variable. Note the predominant spur.
